Europe's Coziest Christmas Markets

· ·

Christmas is just around the corner. The streets of Amsterdam have already been decorated with Christmas lights, the "pepernoten" are for sale and it's time to plan out this year’s presents for friends and family. To get in the right mood for the festive period, what could possibly be better than sipping mulled wine in some of Europe's coziest Christmas markets? Here’s a round-up of a few of our favorites...

Copenhagen, Denmark

The Danish word "hygge" seems to be the word of the year. Why not combine it with the word fun and go for the Christmas market in Copenhagen at Tivoli Garden! That is what Christmas is all about. Find out more here

Gothenburg, Sweden

Sweden’s largest Christmas market is located in the amusement park Liseberg, Gothenburg. And with Gothenburg being one of Sweden’s coziest city’s, you will definitely get that Christmas feeling walking around the various markets around town as well. Hoping the snow will fall early this year. Find out more here

Dresden, Germany

There is a general consensus about Christmas markets that Germans do it best. Berlin and Munich may be the most famous ones, but the oldest one is the Striezelmarkt in Dresden. It has the world’s tallest nutcracker and the world’s tallest Christmas pyramid, enough said. Find out more here

Maastricht, Netherlands

A Christmas market isn’t complete without an ice skating rink and a ferris wheel. The Maastricht Christmas market is located in the Vrijthof square, and if you need a break from the jolly crowds, shopping streets and cafes in the Jekerkwartier is just a street away. You can also follow the magical light path in town showing off various sights. Find out more here

If you're planning on staying in the A’dam for the period, there are plenty of markets to attend. Recommended is also the arrival of Sinterklaas parade starting November 13th, and be sure to eat lots of pepernoten while you're out. The ones from Van Delpft is highly recommended. Find out more here
